We are pleased to see that the Govern* ment have taken steps to reduce the honorariums. Last evening it was first proposed to deduct 20 per cent, off honorariums, but this was not carried, as being no inconsiderable amount. The second proposal was to reduce it by 15 per cent., but this was also negatived on the roices. It was howerer, ultimately decided to reduce members' honorariums by 10 per cent, and we are glad to see that members are not so utterly bound up in self, as the late action in the Upper House led us to suppose they wereThe action of last night shows that the representatives assembled are not averse to curtailing their own remuneration, but it would have looked still better had they not cavilled over the proposed extra deduction. This session will make the third within little more than 12 calendar months, and members could well afford to lose 20 per cent, on their salaries. However, we must be thankful to our servants for granting us the privilege of paying 10 per cent, less for their very equivocal work, as it is all we can get. .:■,■■
