AUCKLAND.
This day.
Mir Evans, Superintendent of Railways New South: Wales, who arrived recently in Auckland on leave, and visits the south to inspect its tramways and on private business, took his departure for Wellington last night by the Aravrata. It-is possible that should Sir Henry Parkes consent and Evans' time and inclination permit, Government may avail themselves of his presence to obtain a report from him as to the management of our railways.
Evidence before R.C. Baritow Esq., 8.M., is being taken this morning at the Industrial Home enquiry.
Bernard Fitzsimmons was fined 25s and costs for furious riding whilst drunk. He rode into Rattray's shop, then started off at a gallop up Queen street, nearly riding over a child and eventually fell off opposite Foley's.
Michael Falconer was sent to prison for seven days, and also beafily fined for a cowardly assault on Constable Lamb, who was taking a prisoner to the lock* up.
