Another Petition.
Against Db Kilgoub this time.
Patrick Trainor, of Hauraki, has forwarded a petition to the House against Dr Kilgour, praying that an investigation may be made into the allegations contained in his petition ; that the same may be brought under the notice of His Excellency the Governor; and that Dr Kilgour be called upon to resign the office of t Justice of the Peace for the colony; and also, that the House grant the petitioner such other relief as may seem meet;
The principal heads of the petition are :—
A reference to a case against Dr Kilgour in Geelong in 1859. That the petitioner finding that the said James Kilgoar, with one Henry C. Lawlor, intended sitting with the .Resident Magistrate, H. Kenrick, Esq., to hear and determine a case on the 29th day of June, in which the petitioner was the informant against one H. E. Campbell, in the Police Court, Thames, the petitioner believing that the said James Kilgour did so out of a feeling of antagonism to the petitioner and one of bis witnesses, and with a view to defeat the ends of justice, he, the said Dr Kilgour, was requested by the petitioner's solicitor to refrain from sitting on the Bench during the hearing of the said case. That, having been so requested, the said Dr Kilgour insisted upon sitting, and did hear and determine the case, which was dismissed.
For the many reasons stated, your petitioner submits that the said James Kilgour is not a fit and proper person to occupy the position and fill the office of a Justice of the Peace and Coroner of the Colony. The petition includes not only a full report of the case in the Police Court, but also the whole of the evidence said to be given in Court in a case in which Dr Kilgour was concerned over 20 years ago in Geelong, Victoria.
