Ih another column we giro the debate on the Peace Preservation Bill which took place last evening in the . House of Representatives. As will be seen there* from the Premier complimented oar member, Mr Sheehan, for che statesman* like action he had taken in Toting with the Government in this matter. The difference between oar two members is that while Sir George Grey objected to the Bill on the score of the principles involved, Mr Sheehan supported it on the ground that it was expedient a special Act having reference to the preservation of the peace should be passed. It is not so much a matter of prinoiple at the present time, and such must be sacrificed for the safety of the quietude of the colony. Probably were the natives in confinement to be liberated the Colony would be put to the expense of a second edition of the affair of 1869.
