, A large public meeting was held last night, and carried a resolution condemning the proposed new, direct mail cpntraet between England and Queensland via Torres Straits, which the Premier arranged for whilst in England. The meet* ing also passed a rote of want of confi* dence in the Ministry in consequence of it having opposed the motion recently carried in the Legislative Assembly for the appointment of a Committee to inqnire into the charges brought against the Premier and the Colonial Secretary in Hemmant's petition to the House.
