COROMANDEL.

A letter from Coromandel says :—A new discovery of a specimen reef has been made in an old claim. The matter was kept very secret until the claim Empress was purchased at auction from the warden. The bidding was very spirited, and finally it was knocked down to C. Mills for £20, although had occasion required, he was prepared to go to £100 for it. A meeting of shareholders was held at the Tramway Hotel afterwards where the specimens were for the first time publicly exhibited. Arrangements were made to commence operations, when it is expected a good crushing will be obtained within a fortnight."
