The estimates were eon tinned. Government Statistics Department—£l3,9lo. Hon. Mr Dick moved that the amount be reduced by £6700. It would not be necessary to take the census this year. X eduction agreed to. Geological and Meteorological Department—£3s6s. Mr Header Woo^ moved a reduction of £2000. After considerable discussion this was lost on a division by 35 to 21, and the vote passed as printed. New Zealand Institute—£soo. Mr Macandrew moved that this be struck out. On a division the vote was rejected by 30 to 23. The vote for the Agent-General's Department was temporarily withdrawn, and the vote, £25,000 for charitable purposes passed. < This day. The vote for Lunatic Asylums was S.Bsed with a reduction proposed by Mr ick. The motion by Mr Speight to reduce it by amount set down for wines and beer was negatived. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Vote was passed, and also the Sheep and Cattle Inspection Vote. In Miscellaneous, £800 for salmon and [ white fish ova, £1500 for Botanical Gardens, and other small sums were struck out on the motion of Mr Dick..
