A F£W days ago we gare our readers a brief resume of the annual report of the Ancient Order of Foresters presented at their annual meeting recently held in Dublin, and to-day we, publish a few particulars of the other principal Friendly Bociety, the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, who recently held their annual meeting at King's Lynn, the Grand Master* Mr Henry Outram ef Sheffield, presiding' In the course of the inaugural address the Grand Master said that notwithstanding the great depression in trade and commerce during the year 1879-it was evident the Order had not lost its hold on the working classes, as was evinced by the fact that during that year no less than 27,730 members were initiated, and on the let of January the Unity numbered no IeBS than 533,520 members, N being an increase of 1,961 during the year. The financial position of the Unity was also a matter for hearty congratulation, for as years ro'ed on there was a marked improvement, due principally to a more equitable adjustment of payments and benefits, and more profitable investment of capital. The total receipts for the year bad been £731,513 8s ld-£551,058 13s 4d from members contributions, £166,025 14s from interest, and £14,429 from admission fees.
