A three roomed cottage was destroyed by fire this morning. It was insured with its contents for £75, but the owner Mr Georgeson estimates his loss at £35 over that amount.
The cutter Fira, when proceeding to Stewart's Island from the Bluff picked up the cutter Transit drifting about in Foveaux Straits, it is supposed she broke away from her moorings at Dog Island during Saturday night's gale, and that her crew will be safe there.
