This day.
A company of Napier gentlemen has been formed to work one of the Mohaka quartz reefs, but no shares are offered to the public. A. parcel of stone was taken from the reef with every precaution against salting, and* was crushed at Thames battery. It gave a s rate of between three and four ounces per ton, though uo gold was visible in the stone.
A tunnel will be put in, and if the reef is a good one when struck some sUnr.es (no reserved) will.be offered to the public.
In the case of Richard Hollis, for setting fire to his house at Taradale, the polu-e declined to offer any evidence, and the accused was acquitted.
