News has been received from Pekin that Chunghow, late Chinese Ambassador at St. Petersburg, who was reported to have been beheaded, but was, as it now transpires, only impeached by his Government for his action in connection with the conclusion of the Kuldja Treaty with Russia, has been reprieved. It is further stated that this step is an indication that the Chinese Government desires to make peace with Russia.
The Marquis of Lansdown has resigned hii position as Under Secretary of State for India because he is opposed to the Irish Evictions Bill which has been introduced by the Government.
