Mr Hutchinson moved the second reading of the Chinese Immigration Bill. Dr Wallis strongly opposed the bill.—The Hon. J. Hall said the Government could not support the measure, which went altogether too far.—Mr C. C. Bowen opposed the bill.—Mr Gisborne desired to see the bill modified in committee to restrict, and not to prohibit tire immigration of Chinese. —Sir G. Grey, Mr Seddon and Mr Beeves supportedl; and Messrs Eamble, Reid, and Te'Wheoro opposed the bill. This day. After a little further discussion the Chinese. Bill was read a second time on a division of 31 to 21. The Native Law Suit Bill was read a second time without a debate, and the Otago Rivers Bill, Hospital Charitable Aid Endowment Bill, aud Fire Brigades Bill, were each read a second time.
The House was in committee on the Oamaru Harbor Board Bill when it roso at 12.30.
The Thames Water Supply Transfer Bill was read a third time end passed in Council yesterday.
