A strong gale blew with unabated fury the whole.of yesterday, but moderated to a fresh breeze this morning, No shipping casualties have occurred. Vessels were unable to leave the port.
Captain Sharpe, aged 74, an old settler, died of bronchitis yesterday.
Supreme Court Sittings.
The bill against Deverenx, butcher, for arson, was thrown out. In the remaining cases true bills were found.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report, under date London, July 3rd —Wheat off the coast. Cargoes have declined 2s per quarter since last report. Adelaide is worth 49s per 4961b5, and New Zealand 475.
In the Supreme Court Thompson was charged with forgery and uttering, and was sentenced to three years on each, sentences concurrent. The Crown Prosecutor declined to offer evidence against the youth Alfred Brown for cutting and wounding. The charge against Eobert Harris for assault is now proceeding. It is now raining heavily.
