THE WRONG HOUSE.
"Did anyone want to see Catherine Cole?" she asked, as she stood before the desk. .
" Some one did," replied bis Hononr, as he put up his apple. "You «re ; charged with disturbing the peace." " The what! Show me the man who says I won't stand up for my own hair band! When anybody abases Timothy . Cole they abuse Catherine too!" / " You pushed a neighbour woman down and then cja»«d her face. Man has beer, tan&fcrt to regard wmbwcsr an anjtel,. but-i-fT , " Bufc I'll never stand by and heat my Timothy called a wink-eyed, bald>headei old dough-head.' " she interrupted. " Did t*<q cull your husband those names ? " *N "Indeed sjtadid, and more too! She said he was theN&eanest, stingiest, lowest cur dog in Detroit, and she ran her tongue out at me, just like this !" " Hold on—draw in jour tongue I" exclaimed the court, as he dodged back in alarm. " Please don't do that any more." '• And do you believe what I say,?" "A good part of it, but you had no right to push and claw her. You should have given her no more attention than the scythe of the farmer bestows upon, the puniest dcwdiop. And then you bit our Bijab's thumb after' you were brought here."
" I bit Bijah! Heaven help me! Bat I'd no more bite him than I'd put my teelh into cist iron !" -.'■''
" Yes, she bit me," said the old man, as he came forward.
" With what?" , . "With your teeth." ■ " Judge, look here——!" She opened her mouth to the size of a quart bowl, run her ; finger around her gums, and lo! not a tooth could be seen in her head, not even an old snag ! . "
His Honour looked at Bijah. Bijafc looked from his thumb to the smiling woman.
" You can go," quietly remarked the court, " but don't have any more trouble." . • "
She walked humbly out, carrying a fall set of false teeth in her pocket. ■
