VICTORIA
I paid a visit to this mine to day, and found that since my last visit the manager has made splendid progress with the crosscut, 18 feet having been driven during the past week. Several mineral veins have been cat since last report, and ' the country continues as favorable as ever combining large quantities of mineral. L his morning there was in the face a ledge of ground with a smooth face running at the same angle to the drive as the reef is supposed to take. This I take as a first class indication of the close proximity of the - reef. Talking to a shareholder of an adjoining claim with respect to the mundic veins in the Victoria drive, I was told, " Why, If I came across any of these I would believe I was coming to something good. I'd drive on these veins* for every quartz they touch they make gold." From, other sources I learn that this v^ pecularitj of the quartz formation of tire vicinity. Gold has been found under similar conditions in other, parts of the field, but never to so marked an extent as in the claims of the Upper Waiotahi.
