Thames Borough Council.
A meeting of the Borough Ceuncill was held this afternoon in the Borough Chambers. Present—Messrs Wilkinson, Bawden, Osborne, Mennie.
Cr McGowan was voted to the Chair.
The Town Clerk said he had called the Councillors together in consequence of a letter from Mr Whitaker to the following effect:—
" Sir,—l have the honour to enclose draft of Thames Water Supply Transfer Bill, of which I shall give notice to day. The agreement between the Borough and the County should be duly executed at once, both by the Borough and the County, and a certified copy trans* mitted to me without delay.-F. A. Whitakeb." -
This was iv reference to the following telegram :-^* To the Mayor, Grahamstown —The Hon. the Premier advised me to telegraph to. you the portion of the agreement with\ the Thames Council of the 2nd December, relating to streams transfer with water-race. They are as follows: —The Government will forthwith transfer to jthej said Council the Kauaeranga river and all its tributaries, and all other streams intervening between to point of commencement and point of termination so far as such streams are or likely to be available for increasing the supply of water in the said race, keeping, however, the Waikdikai Creek; the said Government may at any time in. the public interest alter, amend, or reduce the reserved means or reserved creeks or streams subject to an arrangement by arbitrators as to amount of compensation. '— >Oi-iveb Wakefibld, Undersecretary for Goldfields."
Cr Wilkiuson moved "That the Council acknowledge the receipt of the draft bill forwarded by the Hon. Mr Whitaker, and concur in the provisions of the Bill with the exception of clause nine, having reference to Waikaikai creek vested* in the Borough, also the alteration of * 5000' to * 6000/ "
Or Mennie seconded, and it was carried unanimously. *
Cr Wilkinson moved that tbe foHowiug resolution be forward to Government:— "That the Council views with alarm; the stoppage of subsidies, and fears being unable to keep up the contributions to local charaties."
Cr Mennie seconded, and it was carried. This concluded the business.
