Last night. Serious Railway Accident.

Last night the train from Clinton and the uptrain from Invercargill collided at Edendale at the crossing place. On Saturday evening both trains were heavy freighted with goods and passengers and were going slowly at the time, being within 50 yards of the platform. Only the eDgines and one truck 'eft the rails, but neither sustained much injury. The collision was caused by the driver of oue ox the engines mistaking > the position of the light. The passengers, engine drivers, and stokers all escaped unhurt.

A man named Andrew Cornfoot was lost from the cutter Kent at Kuapuka on Thursday last, having fallen overboard while ;ntoxicated. Hopes were thrown to J ma, but he was unable to catch them, and being unable to swim he soon disappeared.
