NEW NORTH DEVON.
As the time for the expiry of Garvey and party's term approaches, attention is more closely called to this mine. Readers of this eoluom are pretty well conversant with the workings in the immediate vicinity of the tributers' No. 1 winze, but perhaps a short description of their more recent operations will not be uninteresting. After sinking the winze about forty feet, driving was commenced from both sides and 12 feet put in each way. The r?ef was, barren buck quartz, and they consequently determined to suspend operations there, and continue the intermediate drive. This was done, and from a piece" of ground 18 feet by the height of the drive, and the width of the lode the recent splendid crushing was taken. The lode Very much resembles what the Alburnia lode was at the 160 feet level before the.change being, about 6 feet thick end showing gold frequently. The tributers intend driving a short distance further ahead, and then start stoping out the block overhead. They fully expect another 500 or 600 ounces before their time is up—the middle of August. Up to the present the tributers have cleared over £500 per man, and the company from last crashing alone received over £300 percentage money. ; ,
