HOUSE OF KEPRESENTATIVES.
Wellington, Wednesday. The House met at 2.30 to-day.
Over a dozen petitions, were presented from Otago praying for the retention of the bottle license. THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION. Mr Macandrew asked if the whole of the Civil Service Commission evidence will be i laid on the table ; also returns showing the nature and extent of contracts entered into with contractors which the Middle Island Commissioner of Bail ways is alleged to be partner with. Mr Oliver replied that the evidence had not been received from the Commission. Mr Brown moved an adjournment of the House, and, in doing so, insisted that it was only right the evidence in question should be before the House. Messrs Gisborne, Macandrew, Oliver, Speight, Turnbull, Hall, DeLauiour, Seddoo, Stewart, Hutchinson, Sir George Grey, and Major Atkinson spoke ou the subject, and the motion for adjournment was negatived on the voices.
Dr Wallis gave notice that he would ask Government to state at what time copies of the report were furnished for transmission t*> the Auckland Herald, Christchurch Press, and Otago Daily Times on Friday evening.
