To the Editor of the Evening Star.
Sib,—l dont's think that pny question asked of Mr Sheehan on Saturday evening last is of so much importance to the County ratepayers as the question asked by Mr Hart, re the ratepayers having the power to elect the County Chairman; and Mr Hart would only be expressing the wish of the ratepayers if he had asked Mr Sheehan to assist in having the County Chairman elected annuf'ly, the same as the Mayor is elected by the Borough ratepayers. I also think that three years is tco long a teim for County Councillors to be elected to office. It is clearly proved now that the present County system is rotten fo the core, and the sooner it is amended in the abovenamed direction the better it will be for tho whole community. To my mind we would be far better off by doing away with the County altogether, and letl'ng the Borough manage the tonii, and giving us Road Boards in the country. Good on you, Mr Hart! you have driven the first nail in the County coffin. I trust some abler pen than mine wiH take the matter up.—l ;r'\ &c, Ungeammatical. Ohinemuri, 17th June, 1880.
