GALEDONIAN.

The winding'engine has been stopped since yesterday, and Mr Stone in moving the pulley*J|| the new poppets- The brace of theXew poppets is several feet above the top of the old legs, and there is now plenty of space for the disposal of mullock. The country in the cross-cut at No. 3 continues pretty hard. The lode in the winze is looking first-rate, showing satisfactory mineral indications and colors of gold. The water iv the shaft is a few f?et below the flat-sheet of No. 3 let el. The following is the weekly report jM the mine manager :—'• The lode in the*

wiuze below No. 2 level proves p be of great thickness. I have cut i ito it about 4ft for a height of nearly 29ft, and there is no sign of neaiing the hanging-wall. There are good patches of mineral showing throughout the stone, and.on the footwall side near the bottom of the winze—34ft down from No. 2 level—small dabs of gold having bpen found. The great thickness of the lode and the hardness of the stone t»i'l necessitate my sinking under the fotwall lo the No. 3 level before clearing to the hanging*well. When this is connected with the .crosscut the quartz cen be taken awaj.at a much cheaper rate. The cross cut at No. 3 level is in 50ft in the sameelassof country as reported last week, bafharder. Winding will be stopped f?om to-morrow, probably for the rems'ider of the week for lifting the pulley wheel* on to the new poppet brads, putting on the new ropes, &c. When the winding engine Starts next week I propose cleaning: out the north eastern work'ngsr Ifo. 3 level, and continuing the rise near the slide.— Thohas James.
