The Payment of Members Bill was again under discussion in the Legislative Assembly last night. An amendment was proposed by Murray Smith to exclude payment to members of the Legislative Council was defeated on a division by 48 to 28. No progress was made with the measure, and Williams, the member in charge, threatened to abrndon it unless the House dealt more rapidly with it.
Angi'j scenes occurred in the Chamber last eight id consequence of the impediments in the way of the Bill, passing. Sir Cctiiff Owen has resigned bis position as one of the Commissioners for Great Britain to the Melbourne Exhibition. Herbert Seadford succeeds him. Money Wigram and Son have decided to withdraw from the Australian t^ade aid a-e going to sell their vessels. Sailed: Eotomahana for the Bluff.
