VICTORIA.
In a report on the above mine in yes* tesday's issue, I omitted to state that several mineral veins have been out running at right angles with the drive. As these veins are always infallible adjuncts of a gold-bearing reef in this locality—as instanced Jn the case of the Alburnia— I fully expect the reef to be payably auriferous. The great drawback in the working of this mine will be the cost of conveyance, carters wanting 8s per load to take quartz to the Queen of Beauty machine from the mouth of the drive, so that about oae- third of every ounce taken out will be eaten by the expenses of carting and crushing. The manager intends to cheapen the cartage considerably by a tramway, hoppers, and shoot, but. I think if the lode turns out as expected an effort should be made to get a small battery erected, there being sufficient water—not mineralised—to drive a turbine for 10 or 15 head.
