ALBURNIA.
The general crushing at the company's mill is shaping splendidly, which is all the more satisfactory, as during the past few days the richer runs hare not been worked. Close on 2500 as of amalgam were obtained from yesterday's run on general dirt from all parts of the mine. In the mine the Sons of Freedom reef in the tunnel continues to improve. It is a splendid looking body of stone, and may develop rich gold at any moment. The country and the surroundings are all that could be desired. Seme colors of gold continue to be teen in the reef in east drive 160 feet level, but otherwise there is no change since last report. The manager is now making arrangements for developing a very promising section of the mine. I refer to Dixon's section. The Whau level will be connected by means of a winze with the 160 feet, and a good supply of remunerative dirt will be provided. In the intermediate stopes but little specimen stone has been broken lately, the manager having the men employed bringing the stope through a poorer portion of the lode. This morning there was a nice show of gold in the stopes near the face of drive in hanging wall leader at 70 feet level, and a few nice stones were obtained. The manager, under date June 14, reports as follows :—" Sons of Freedom tunnel: Contractors are making fair progress in this tunnel. From the first starting I have never seen the reef near the adjoining country looking so promising, and would expect to see payable gold at any moment. Contractors are also making good headway in 160 feet level east. The reef has become smaller and better defined and much easier to be worked. During the last few days we have seen some colors of gold, but nothing very rich as yet. Stoping west has been carried on on close to the boundary; stopes still yielding some specimens with good crush' ing dirt. Dixon's crosscut: Cleaning out and repairing still in progress, and I intend next week to clean out and repair a drive in Whau level on Dixon's reef, from where I purpose sinking a winze to connect with crosscut on 160-feet level. This block is 160 feet in height, and has not been prospected, except very slightly by tributers, and I trust when this winze is completed that we may have many payable returns from thisseotion of the company's ground. 70 feet level.—
Sloping east has been carried on hangingwall leader and Rons of Freedom reef with same satisfactory results as last reported. Intermediate level east.— The slopes and drive are both yielding good crushing dirt, specimens and picked stone. Stoping has also been carried on here whence we bave obtained some rich specimens and picked stone with a good show still in face. During this month I have retorted twice from which I have derived 1231yozs retorted gold. I have now on hand 20O!bs of picked stone, but do not expect to obtain so much as we have been getting for a few days, as we have got a little away from the run of gold. I am pretty certain of having as good a return this month as last. Battery: 17 head constantly employed for company and 5 for Whau.—l am, etc., Thos. Badfoed.
