The Chairman said that the Bench wished him to make a few remarks upon their action in closing some of the public houses. They Had had an upleasant duty to perform, but had done so in a fair manner. Iv the opinion of the Bench there was not sufficient accomodation for travellers on the Thames, and had they have acted as they were prompted to do, several more houses in the district, would now be closed. In a place like the Thames more accommodation for the travelling public was required—not drinking shops, but legitimate accommodation for travellers. Where the Bench saw good accommodation they, would be inclined to grant licenses, but a number of the houses had not the conveniences required by the public. ■•;■;-.. ; The Court then adjourned.
