OUR MINES

ALBURNIA,

Last night 801bs of picked stone was obtained from the intermediate slopes. The reef in the 160-feet level eastern drive is showing good colors of gold, and the quartz goes payably at the battery. Retorting for the week will probably take place tomorrow. If it is postponed till Monday a yield fully as good as the one of last week's is expected. The following is the mine manager's report:—" Gentlemen : I beg leave to inform you that the- drire in Sons of Freedom tunnel is being pushed forward satisfactorily. The reef is well defined and still heavily charged with minerals, and has every appearance of still proving. 160 feet level, east: Here is a large reef heavily charged with minerals, but I hare not as yet seen any gold, although all the dirt broken here is sent to the battery, where the general dirt is showing up for a payable return. Stoping west is still being carried on, and we still obtain some specimens and picked stone from this place, with a gocd supply of crushing dirt. 70-feet level, east: Stoping has been carried on on hanging wall leader and Sons of Freedom reef, from both of which we obtained some specimens and a good supply of. crushing dirt. Intermediate level, east, and stopes east and west, still look well, and still yield ng a good supply of specimens and picked stone with good crushing dirt. I have this day retorted the amnlgam on hand collected since the first of the month for the return of 657f om gold. I have now on hand 150ozs amalgam and 20Olbs picked stone, with every prospect of getting more, so that I am pretty confident of having as good a return this month as last. Battery : 17 head of stampers are constantly employed for the company, and 5 for Ihe Whau. All the machinery working satisfactory,—Thomas Radfobd, June Bth, 1880."
