1 Consols, 98f, ex div. London, June 4. In the House of Lords last night, the New Burial Bill was introduced. It provides that the burial of dissenters should be permitted to take place in churchyard cemeteries, without the recital of the Church of England service.
The cricket match between Australia and eighteen of Burnley was commenced to-day. The, attendance of the public at the match was large. The Australians, who went in first, were all out for 148 runs. Murdoch was run out for 58 runs. The Home players followed, and when stumps were drawn for the day they had lost nine wickets for 19 runs. Constantinople, June 4. The question as to whether the sentence of death passed upon Mehomed Veli, assassin of the Russian attache, Colonel Commeroff, should be carried out, still remains unsettled. The Sultan advises that the sentence should be commuted, and has referred the matter to the Ulemas, who will decide the course to be pursued.
The Bight Hod. Mr Goschen, the newly-appointed special Ambassador to the Porte, had an audience to-day with the Sultan. Mr Goschen expressed hopes that the Sultan would take speedy steps to bring about the necessary reforms in Turkey so that all races and religions might be assured. It has not transpired what answer was returned by the Sultan to the Ambassador. Rangoon, June 4. Insurrection in Burman. Information has been received that a party of Burmese rebels have been on a foraging expedition, but had been defeated in an encounter with Burmese troops, and have crossed the frontier into British territory. Later. The insurrection in Independent Burmah is rapidly extending. A severe encounter has taken place between a force of Burmese and the Government troops and a body of rebels. The former were defeated, and their commander captured by the rebels, who beheaded him. Four companies of British regiments which were ordered to the frontier of British Burmah have already started.
