The Attorney General said the Government would decide in a few days whether or not to introduce a Savings Bank Act Amendment Bill. v Mr Buckley withdrew two Bills, the Land Transfer Act Amendment and District Courts Act Amendment, as the Government will introduce similar i measures. VOLUNTEER OUTBAGEB. At the suggestion of Mr Whitaker, Colonel W hitmore's motion for making a searching investigation into the late volunteer outrages (which the mover said had been grossly exaggerated), was deferred till Tuesday. NSW BILLS. The following five new Native Land. Bills werejjead a first time, and reported to a Special Committee :—Bills to make provision for native reserves; to prevent improvident dealings and frauds upon the alienation of native lands ; to extend the jurisdiction of the Native Land Court in the estate of deceased natives ; to amend and consolidate the law relating to the Native Land Court.
Mr Whitaker explained that these fire measures, and three more to come from the Lower House, would comprise the whole of the Native Land Law, and would supersede all existing Native Land Laws. SECOND HEADINGS. The Adulteration Prevention Bill, Animals Protection Bill, Building Society Bill, Cruelty to Animals Bill, Deaths by Accident Compensation Bill, Juries Bill, Marriage Bill, Married Women's Property Projection, Bill, Proclamations Validation Bill, Impounding Bill, Fisheries Bill, Fencing Bill, Dog Registration Bill, and Branding Bill. The first nine are bills from the Revision and Consolidation of Statutes Commissioners, and are condensations of existing laws.
Mr Chamberlain moved the throwing out of the Fencing Bill, but the second reading was carried by 17 to 1.
