NELSON.
Last night. Attempted Wife Murder.
About one o'clock this afternoon, a fisherman named Antoni Wett, stabbed
his wife in the back with a knife, which passed between her ribs, and, so far, it is uot expected to bo fatal. The husband was immediately arrested. The couple have disagreed for a considerable time. The woman not holding the best of characters, Wett recently left her, and ran away to Auckland, but was brought back on a protection order, and made to contribute to his children, and after a time returned to his wife again. LATEE. Tins day. Antoni Wett was charged this morning with attempting the murder of his wife and was remanded till Monday. It appears now he did not stab the woman, but that he threw a heavy knife at her which struck her in the back and passed between the ribs, the wound being an inch wide. The woman had been drinking and it cannot be determined whether the wound is likely to prove fatal.
