Concert.
A concert of a very interesting character took place last evening in the Presbyterian Church. The weather was not at all favourable to concert lovers, but nevertheless there was a fair attendance. Had the weather been more propitious the church would probably have been crowded, as over 400 tickets have been sold. The proceeds of the concert are to go to the re-painting and cleaning of the church. The choir were under the conductorship of Mr J. Grigg, while Mr E. A. E. Owen officiated at the harmonium. The programme was not performed in its entirety as Mr Catran and Miss Frobert were unable to attend. The following was the programme, each item of which was much admired .-—Chorus, "And the glory of the Lord " (Messiah); Air, " Comfort," Mr Hilton ; "Charity," a chorus for female voices excellently rendered. " Angels ever bright and fair, 1' demonstrated the sweet voice of Mrs Kilgour. "He is blessed " by Misses Hunter and Belcher and Messrs Grigu and Stewart. " Consider the Lillies "by Miss Coney, "Cujus Aniraam" (Stabat Mater) harmonium selection by Mr E. A. E. Owen; " Quis est homo," Mrs Kilgour; "Sing ye praise,* Mr Airey; " Sing, O Heavens " (Arthur Sullivan) bj
the choir; " Like as a Father " choir ; " O Father hear us " Mrs Kilgour and Messrs Hunter and Belcher; " Ruth," by Miss Hunter; Harmonium selection" War march of the Priests," (Mendelssohn's Athalie), by Mr B. A. It. Owen. " Alma Virgo," by Mrs Kilgour, and chorus. "Oh thou whose power" (Rossini), by Mesßsrs Airey, Stewart, Hilton and Brown; " The last man," by Mr C. Brown, and the "Hallelujah" chorus, from the " Messiah," brought the proceedings to a close. This was one of the best sacred concerts which has been held on the Thames.
