NEW NORTH DEVON AND COLUMBIA.

The large pass about to be constructed by these two companies will be'started from a point near the Whau boundary at the 160-feet level. It will be 137 feet in length, and will contain two quarlz shoots —one for each company—a ladder road and a mullock pass, with capacious hoppers attached. In the construction of this work a novelty will be introduced, the form of door connecting the ladderway with the shoots, so that in case of stuff sticking in any of the passes access can be easily obtained to clean away the obstruction. Mr H. Crump is the designer of this work. The Columbia com* peny have accepted a tender for driving.
