London, May 19. Mr Parnell commands the support of the Home Eule party in the House of Commons., The first act of his leadership was to submit a Land Programme to a caucus of Home Rulers, who unanimously resolved to support the scheme. Correspondence of considerable importance has taken place betweeu the British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Secretary Evarts on the Newfoundland Fishieries question. The late English Secretary (Marquis of Salisbury) denied that there were any grounds for the demand made for compensation on behalf of the American fishermen, and gave his views on the subject at considerable length. In reply Secretary Evarts.entirely repudiates the views of the English Secretary of State, and further in a letter to President Hayes urges that the American Government would be justified in adopting retaliatory measures in defence of the rights of American fishermen. This serious declaration of Secretary Evarts has excited a somewhat sensational interest in America, and has creat d considerable surprise in England. The policy of tte Liberal Government on thesubject is looked forward to with unusual anxiety.

Earl Beaconsfield has called a meeting of the Tory party to consider what programme they shall adopt with reference to conducting the business of the Opposition.
