Opening of Parliament.
The Queen's Speech.
London, May 20,
This afternoon the first session of the twenty-second Parliament of England was opened formally, by Royal Commission. The Speech from the throne was read by the Lord Chancellor. It states that the relations of Great Britain with the foreign powers continue to be of a very friendly character. A hope is expressed that in concert with the Great Power 3an early and complete fulfilment of the Treaty of Berlin may be promoted, and the effectual reforms in Turkey and equal laws for the Turkish race, may be brought about, together with a settlement of the question of territorial rights. The strict fulfilment of the Treaty of Berlin is deemed essential, and necessary in order to avert complication in Eastern Europe. The Right Hon. G. J. Goschen has been despatched as a Special Ambassador to Constantinople, with the object of "bringing about the due fulfilment of the traaty obligation. The necessary efforts will be made to pacify Afghanistan, and to establish the institution, aud secure tho independence of a government in that country. The confederation of the South African colonies will be recommended,.and British supremacy in Transvaal will be maintained. An Act passed by last Parliament for the preservation of peace in Ireland will not bs renewed. The Speech concluded by stating that the principal measures to be introduced by the Government during the session will include the Burials Bill, and bills for the renewal of the Ballot Act, for reform of ths game lows, and one declaring the liability of employers in case of accidents to workmen, and for tie extension of the Borough Franchise to Ireland. ,

The Australian cricketers commenced their second match against 18 players of Longsight. The English team went in first and scored 118. Spofforth took nine wickets. The Australians have six wickets down for 26 runs. The bowling was dead on the wicket.
The House of Lords have voted Address in Keply to Speeoh from the
Throne.
After a short debate, House of Com* nions voted au Address in .Reply to the Speech from the Throne. After a long debate an amendment by Irish members was rejected by a large majority.

A Ministerial Sill has been introduced into the Lower House of the German Parliament for a revision of the May (?) laws. The changes proposed will provide lnr^c concessions to the Catholics in Germany, and meets the views of tho Vatican.
