This day.

A thrashing machine, on ued by Messrs Wellwood end Hislop, and six sacks, of wheat • and oats belonging to some Maories were burned at Kohupata near town .to-day. The total damage is about £100. The machine was insured for £300 in 'the New Zealand Company.

An old settler named Henry Nicholls committed suicide at Waipawa yesterday by shooting himself with a revolver. He h:.d made several attempts before, and in consequence was arrested on suspicion of lunacy ; he was released, however, arid it was within two hours of his discharge that he shot himself.
