NEW GOLDEN CROWN.

The mine was again wisited this afternoon. In the face of the Battery level cross-cut, I found that jthe men were employed squaring do* a the muMock. Sine 3 yesterday one shot has been fired lower, down the reef than the "vug," and golden atone obtained with gold left in the break. It is probable that the leaders and stringers cut lately are portions of a lode split up at the point of its intersection, and that they made a solid body of quartz both cast and west of the drive. No breaking down will take place till to-morrow. —The following is Mr Dunlop's report sent to the directors of the Company :— Cross-cut at Battery level: On the 3rd instant c contract «as let for driving at 11s 6d per foot to George and party, since which date a distance of 34 feet has been driven, and several small veins have been cut. One of those looks very promising, andis surrounded with splendid sandstone country. Intermediate level: This level was opened from the widze sunk from battery level at a depth of 68 feet. It has been driven a distance of 20 feet along the course of the leader, at which point it connects with a rise put up from the ICO feet level, so that in future all quartz and mullock will be hoisted up with the engine. From this part of the mine during the fortnight between fifteen and twenty tons of quartz and several pounds of specimens have b-en saved. The 100 feet level has also been cleaned out and repaired for a distance of 200 feet, but all the mullock is stack'i in the chamber awaiting the necessary repairs to tne winding engine. Arrangements have been made with the New Zealand Insurance Company for the use of the winding engine for six months at 10s per week. All thejrepairs are to be done by the company. They are now' a 1 iiost completed. The boiler has been thoroughly cleaned and pass'd by the Government Boiler Inspector, and the piston aud cylinder have been overhauled. I expect that by Wednesday everything will be in good working order, and then we will be in a position to get the 103 feet level cleaned up. The following telegram was sent yesterday to Mr F. A. White:—Out a r'ef in crosscut this morning. Picked into it 18 inches; a little gold and copper showing.—T. A. Duniop.
