A petition has been numerously signed in favour of the release of Mrs Bostock, the new arrival who was imprisoned for a breach of Customs regulations. The* petition was in the market for signature, Mr A. Bettany haviaig kindly taken charge of it at his stall. The Key. William Tcbbs, the new incumbtnt of St. Matthew's Church, and his family, have reached Lyttelton from London, and may therefore be expected in Auckland in the course-of next week. This day. Mr Moss 021 New Zealand Finance. Mr Moss, M.H.R., has written a financial paper in one. of the daily papers. He disclaims having any party bias. He j ascribes the origin of the present difficulty I to the ministers prior to the Grey Government. ■ He argues that the whole available revenue, including the land tax, is only sufficient to pay permanent charges, and will leave a balance of £265,000. For the other of the Government £1,185,000, showing a deficit of £820,000. £150,000 may be reduced, leaving a deficit of £76,000, which the repeal of the Land Tax will tuake £768,000. He also argues that the taxation cannot be reduced,'and he advocates decentralization, and to return to provincialism as a remedy. Fatalities at Sea. Ou the Loch Dee, which arrived yesterday from London, one passenger committed suicide, and three fell overboard and were drowned.
