At the meeting ot Hje Board of Governors of the Grammar School to-day, Mr O'Rorke, M.H.8., moved, and the Mayor seconded, the following resolutions ':— " That in the matter of University Education, Auckland has a) great disadvantage, compared with other cities in the South;" "That a cojlege should be established in Auckland with a staff of professors." ■ / / Sir George Grey proceeds South by the Te Anau today. New Rates. The City Council last night struck a rate of 9d in the £,*and a special rate of Is 3d. A-wM Railway Accident. Edward Walsh, nephew of Mr Caldwell, station master at Hamilton, was passing from the guard's van to the passengers' carriage, while the Waikato train was in motion, and accidentally fell off. The engine returned, and Walsh was found unconscious near the line. The left leg was smashed close to the groin, and the right leg was crushed below the knee. Walsh died a few hours After. The deceased was only married on Sunday last. Surveying Operations. The surveys of-.the Patetere lands are not sufficiently ;advp.need to pass the Cambridge land iDourt; The progress of the railway to Te Awamutu is causing a great rise in the price of land.
The City Council have decided to number the houses in the principal streets. . X
The Grammar School Governors today affirmed, the .desirability of combining a boarding branch with the Grammer School.
: , Last night. Robert Little, described as a bootmaker of Queen street, was. charged at the Police Court -with concealing a number of pictures with intent to defraud his creditors in bankruptcy. The case was adjourned until Monday. ' The defendant was allowed bail in £100 and two sureties of £50 each.
Mr Arthur Sketchley (Mrs Brown), and Professor Proctor were passengers for Sydney by the Botomahana.,
