ALBURNIA.
Readers of this column, will remember that during the recent visit of the directors to the mine a shot was fired in the floor of the 70 feet level west of the* No. 1 maze and some healthy looking stone obtained. The stope over the intermediate drive from winze is now' directly under this point and last evening a nice little paten of specimens and picked stone was obtained from this portion and also from the stopes eastward of winze—in all 401 bs of specimens and 601bs of good picked stone being bagged. I was shown the stone by the manager to-day. Some of that from" the* western stope .was exceediagly heavy and rich in gold, containing also a conglomeration of other minerals. Some from the other side of the winze was scarcely go much mineralised, but contained good blotches of gold, showing on both sides. The underhand stope cloqe on the Whau boundary has been suspended, bat Mr Kadford, is vigorously proceeding witb the stoping on the block between the intermediate and 70-feet levels, and a large quantity of remunerative crushing dirt is coming out. One of the main sources of the quartz supply are the stopes over the 70 feet level. The reef is of good size and there is still a vast quantity of stone to take out, Yesterday a few lbs of nice stone was obtained by one of the parties working near the winze at the -'jump up."
