The Charges against the Inspector of Miners' Rights.
Our readers will remember that the last notice we published re the charges against Mr Mcllhone, the position, of affairs was that the case of the petitioners had closed and Mr Mcllhone was requested to send in his defence in writing. After some days' delay, Mr Mcllhone proceeded to send in his statement, to bo forwarded with the rest of the evidence to the Native Minister, when the B.M. informed him that he had already forwarded the result of the inquiry, but offered to send on Mr Mcllhone's statement if it was submitted to him, This Mr Mcllhone thought unfair—•that!' o'one side of the story should be pjaced before . the head of the department first and so have the effect of prejudicing his case.. We believe
there is a desire on the part of certain parties to amalgamate the offices of Mining Inspector and Inspector of Miners' Eights. The adoption of such a course, however, appears to us to be undesirable, as from the magnitude of the duties of both officials, the work could not be efficiently performed by one.
