MOANATAIRI.
The gold resulting from last fortnight's crushing was today melted into an ingot weighing 3700zs 6dwts. This yield is somewhat less than its predecessors, but this is owing to some of the stopes from which a quantity of the rich stone was obtained being worked away from the runs of gold. It is worthy of mention howover, that both the stopes and creek level drive in Point Russell section are yielding remunerative stuff. The lode here is over one foot thick and has a healthy appearance, and this section of the mine promises to become one of the most reliable sources of the quartz supply. There is no change in Nonpareil or other workings. The manager's weekly report is ag follows :—Point Russell section.—ln driving the creek level east a reef 16 inches thick has dipped in from south side. It is a well-defined compact lode showing good mineral and payable stuff. The stopes here are also payable. Tunnel level.—The big reef in east drive is now five feet thick and looks more promising for gold than it has yet been, the stone being darker and containing more mineral. Nonpareil cross-cut has been driven several feet through the hard dyke, and is without charge. 80 feet level.—ln the cross cut west quartz stringers are met with, but nothing to notice. The stopes above this and intermediate levels are without change to mention, and the same remark will apply to stopes above tunnel level. During the past fortnight 325 tons of quartz have been crushed, yielding 375|ozs retorted gold. I may mention the falling off in our return owing to the stopes having been worked away from the runs of gold, but it is necessary to stope out the poor stuff as well as the good.—l am, etc.,—-Robt. Comee.
