Fatal Railway Accident
An accident occurred at one o'clock yesterday on the railway line at Addington, resulting in the death of a porter named Thomas Duffy. The deceased was engaged in attending to some wagons which were being shunted, and it is supposed that while putting down the break he fell from the buffer underneath the wagon. When the trucks had been cleared away he was seen lying across one of the rails, cut nearly in two. His remains were picked up and conveyed to the morgue. The deceased was 35 years of age, and had been employed many years on the Cbristehurch railway. He was a sober, steady man, much respected, and leaves a large family. It is somewhat strange that yesterday was the last day Duffy was to work at Additigton, as arrangements had been made for his transfer .to-day to the position of night watchman to the Christchurch station.
