At 12.30 o'clock this morning the jury gave a verdict in the tramway case which was substantially for the plaintiff. Upon this ve/dict the Court will have to make an award. The Disabled Steamer. The steamer Manawatu, which broke down on the trip from Wanganui, was towed into port this morning. The injury done to the vessel is that the crqwn of the boiler has fallen in. It is stated that a strict, enquiry will be held as to the circumstances connected with the accident.
The police are investigating the circumstances connected with the fire at Berhampool.
Longhurst, sentenced last session, to ten years and 2 whippings, received the first 25 this morning. He bore it unflinchingly, but suffered severely. The report of the medical examination denies that the prisoner suffers from heart disease.
