CHRISTCHURCH.
Last night.
The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a cable advice from London, stating that H.M.s Comus has been unable to find any traces of the missing ship Knowsley Hall at the Crozets. The Company have also received advices of the arrival of the Hurunui and Wai pa at London.
This day. Scab has broken out among the sheep on Mr Edgar Jones' run on the south side of the rivers Hope and Waiau, it is caused by the sheep crossing the river from the Northern side.
Mr Foster, Sheep Inspector, recommended last year in his report on sheep in the Amueri district, that the runs on the south side should be fenced, so as to effectually prevent sheep from crossing, and that all sheep should be killed as soon as possible. His instructions were not acted upon,. the result being that sheep have crossed and the disease is fast spreading. Squatters ip the district are actively engaged in mustering, and doing all tbat can be done to meet the difficulty.
