The Te Aroha.

Speaking of the Te Aroba lands, the Herald says:— "■ The Te Aroha lands occopied the attention of the Waste Lands Board, at their meeting yesterday, for a considerable time. In the first place, the sale of the lands opened under the deferred payment system, which took place during the week, was brought under the Board's notice, and the paucity of applications from' Thames people was a subject _ of comment. Next there was an application from purchasers for liberty to take timber from a certain block for fencing and firewood, and a deputation waited on the Bbard on the subject; but the block being included in the area claimed by Mr Russell, the Board could not deal with it. A query arises whether it is so included, fora late Gazette notification proclaims this same block waste lands of the Crown., The question of opening a portion of Te Aroha district under the Homestead Act was deferred for a full meeting: of the Board. The high prices and keen competition for the Tuakau lands were commented on. An application from certain Swiss and German vine-growers, to hare land selected by thorn in the Bay: of Islands district opened under" the jHomeßtead Act, was favorably entertained. Mr Canoa Johnson, a KatiIcati getllery preferred a very grave charge against 'Mr G.Vesey Stewart, in respect to bashing promissory notes of settlers before they became due. This was submitted in the form of a letter, but of course the Board could not deal with it in any way. A rery considerable amount of general business was transacted at the meeting, otwhicha report appears i elsewhere, but it is a somewhat singular circumstance that there were no applications to have lands offered for sale on the immediate payment system, although there were large requirements under the Homestead Act."
