The Inquest Yesterday.

We conclude our report of the proceedings at the Coroner's inquest on the body of James Syveret yestei'day:— Mathew Cummings, cross-examined by (he jury, deposed—Mr Nolan was sawing underneath 20 minutes, and said nothing about the supports.

Robert Brynn, sworn, deposed—He was a labourer, employed at the Big Pump. Me was in the Big Pump yard this morning at 10 o'clock. In consequence of a call for help from the bottom of the yard, he ran down and saw several people assembled. He saw deceased with his head jammed between two logs. Witness called for them to assist in getting him out. Cummings jacked the log, and witness removed the body. He was quite dead, the head being smashed to pieces. He collected the fragments of the head and placed them in a sack. He examined the timber supporting the log, and considered more care should hare been used.

Sergt. Mulville deposed to assisting to remove the body. He searched the body and found on it a knife, a key, a pocketbook, matches, watch arid chain, eyeglass, and a piece of paper with some calculation on it. He examined the structure and considered it unsafe. The Coroner said that an undue confidence on the part of deceased was the cause of his death. . The Jury returned a verdict of "accidental death," no rider being added, though one of the jurors, Mr fianlon, suggested a rider to the effect that the mine managers be cautioned to exercise more discrimination in the accepting of tenders.
