The Board of Education.

" Omega," writing in last evening's issue of the Auckland Star, waxes wrath about the doings of the Secretary of the Board. This ia how he speaks :—" I saw by the passenger list of the Kotomahana that Vincent E. Bice had gone' South, and upou enquiry I found that he has gone to attend a meeting of the General Synod to be held in Christchurch. Surely a personage of his importance can aoaroely be spared, by the Board; or if an officer receiving such a high salary can be spared for a month or more, why not altogether P I am sure the committees would be profoundly thankful if such were the case. He has done more to make the Act, the committees and the Board, come into collision than any other man in Auckland, by " negiest," " inadvertence," % and " overlooking " — unintentionally, of course (P) He' must, however, know the Board well, when he is so certain of obtaining leave* that he contests an election when perhaps (?) the Board may refuse < the necessary permission, and virtually disfranchise a large body of the Church. May be it's more than the seats of some of the members of the Board are worth to refuse—' 'Tis indeed a close Borough,' and many of iis members are known only to tiie majority of the committees through its offices. To do -the thing handsomely—like the supemsore—< he should receive extra pay for neglecting his legitimate work, and thereby disgust the taxpayers a little more by the wanton manner iv which their money is spent and

the whole system carried out. A nice trip, indeed, for a Government officer at the people's expense ! "
