The 'Settlement' of the Komata Difficulty.
ANOTHER MABE'S. NEST.
We have the best authority for stating that the statement in the Advertiser of yesterday—that the Komata difficulty had been settled by old Tukukino agreeing to permit the Council to push the Ohinemuri main road through his domain—is utterly untrue, and there is good reason to believe that oar contemporary's informant was hoaxed by the natives most shamefully. The true facts of the case, so far as we can learfi, are that the Komata chief intended making about 12 chains of road through the bush for his own convenience and at his own expense. The wily old rangatira was interviewed by Mr E. W. Puckey on the matter yesterday, and he informed that gentleman that though he had contemplated constructing a road, he had changed his mind after his intentions were made public. This is the whole history of the affair. At the time of reading the paragraph in our contemporary we thought it too good to be true.
