THE IRIBH DISTRESS. J> The distress is still very great, notwitlw standing the exertions of the Duchess of Marlborough and the . Lord Mayor of Diblin to relieve the rafferinf poor. Aeut;, however, as it is income districts* it does not affect, on the whole, a very large part of the countvy or of the population. Ample supplies, it is affirmed, of food and fuel are to be obtained in: the chief centres, whenever the necessity for the intervention of the Executive may ariee, and with the existing meant of rapid itt* tercommunieation aid may beearnid to those who stand in need of it without delay. The lending of money on easy terms to landlords, to'sanitary authoritiei, and to baronial presentment sessions will, it is hoped, assist in keeping the peasantry employed at fair wagec during the trying period immediately befoae us. At the last meeting of the Dublin Mansion House Committee sabtcripttbna were announced, including £4,3 CD, through the Union Bank of Australia. £1,000, through the London Joint Stock Bank from Sydney, £300, throifh the Mayor of Neweastleoh-Tyne, and£l,6oo through the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch. The special thanks of the committee were accorded. It was stated' that the subscriptions received (exclusive of promises by telegram and otherwise); amounted to £49,183 19a 7d, and, the grants made £20,149,ieaving a balance ia hand of £29,039 19i 7d. The Pope has sent £100, to each of the four Boman ' Catholic archbishops in aid of the distress. . „i\ . •.i^
