THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT YOUR FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, MARCH 30, 1880.
In continuation of our remarks re the Water Supply question, and the urgent necessity that exists for a settlement of the matter- between the County and Borough, we recommend to the residents of Shortland to form a deputation to His Worship the Mayor, asking that a meeting of the Council be called at once, and steps taken to secure a settlement of the Water Supply Question. The subject is of so much importance to Shortland people that the question of the balance of gain to either County or Borough should not be allowed to prevent an end being put to the matter. The question whether Shortland gets an equally liberal supply of water to that given Grahamstown depends upon the arrangement being concluded with the County, and the vital importance to the South and Middle Ward ratepayers should make them -bestir themselves. A meeting of the Council could be called to-morrow, the terms of the County stated in our columns accepted, and the whole matter ended before the sun had set on the 31st of March. If it is not done the members of the Borough Council will by their foolish, childish, and vacillating policy inflict ;an injury upon a portion of the township, which years will not enable them to undo.
