TIMARU.
Last night,
Sixteen men have been arrested on a charge of riot and assault in connection with a fight for the possesion of a flock of sheep, which occurred at Pig Hunting Creek yesterday. Warrants are out for several others; Eleven are now being criminally * prosecuted. The sheep in
dispute belonged to Messrs Meek aid Scott, of Oamaru, and were sold to one Mr McLeish by Scott, and subsequently seized by direction oi Meek, who believed .the sale to be a fraudulent one. A fight for possession took place between McLeish and his men and Meek's representatives, who had also received authority to retain the sheep pending the decision of the Supreme Court in reference to partuership of property. The prosecuting counsel said that the eleven men, including McLeish, should be committed for trial, The case will occupy the Court all day.
